Hard to review something so heavily stilised, but I can say that I like the colors you used. Especially how the floor has more saturated colors than the skin. Nice job drawing the attention to the face with the detail and contrast. I don't like the all white arm and even though I am not supposed to cry about you-know-what, the fingers on the other hand are a bit toooo long.

I haven't figured out a deeper meaning, if there is even one, but I simply like what I see. I think it would look even better if the lines weren't as sketchy, but that's just my taste.

Nice job.

P.S.: Proportions!

You lost to the one rule. How does that make you feel, Luw?

Let me start, by saying that I honestly like the design. It seems refreshingly original for a fantasy setting. My favourite part are the coarsely grown bits on the hips, neck and the arms above the fur.

The pipe is an interesting item. While he appears very crude and dangerous the pipe is a strong contrast adding some calmness to him. Kind of hard to explain properly. It fits so well into the picture, because you wouldn't expect it to fit so well to the character... does that make sense?

The sketches below remind me a lot of Hyptosis' art which is, talking about character design, definitely a good sign.

The warm highlights from the left look great and they serve as good subtle hints towards them living underground, especially in combination with the pickaxe. Of course we know it from the description, but I instantly thought about dwarves when I first saw the creature, so maybe I would have gotten it on my own. Who knows? :P

I got to say, he's probably a little too scantilly clad for such a cold area. Of course there seems to be some sort of warm lightsource on the left, but the image overall appears very cold still. The shaman in comparison wears a lof of clothes.

I am not a big fan of the upper part of the background, therefore the snow and rock rock. Nice job making the pickaxe handle and head convincingly look like wood and metal.

The different items are very well designed and definitely look like they belong together.

Again, I am not even touching the subject of your technical skill. You know way better than I how professional you skill level is. Moreso, you probably keep demanding more of yourself, while I am already stunned.

Great work, as usual.

Hey there, nice job! I gotta say some edges in the version on the left appear a bit crude, but that lit version looks pretty awesome in return. Is that a lamp you sticked into the pumpkin? Haha the strong light inside really pushes the angriness! Not a big fan of the way the unlit version is set up, but it's just a minor detail and the carving is what it really is all about.

Well done!

bigjonny13 responds:

Thanks Lu.

Yeah, I don't have any real carving tools so it's a real pain in the ass to get smooth clean lines, I usually have to force a score with the paring knife, and for the de-skinned parts, I score and chip the skin off with the screwdriver.

And yeah, that's a lamp instead, shows off the shading better, because a regular candle isn't strong enough to light through the thick pumpkin meat.

I'm excited to see you back posting art on here! Love the concepts, especially the beast. Not sure, but I think something is slightly wrong with the sorceress' hand. I guess the ratio of hand size vs finger size? Either way, great work overall as usual. Keep us updated on that game, please. I'm really curious how they will look inside the finished game.

Have a little belated "welcome back" and don't leave us again. :)

That chin more like American Dadman. Can't think of a smart observation that connects his crying with Ben Affleck, but I know it's there.

Love the different facial expressions, but overall it's pretty dark. The slightly too dark knight, kinda.

Impressive! This came out really really well and would probably make a great shirt. I like how the bat signal connects inside and outside. Very effective use of the different values. The city appears to have some depth although all the buildings, the bats and the fog themselves are flat.

The only thing that could be changes is the border. I know it's the cape that surrounds the cityscape, but it seems too straight. Especially the borders to the left and right could use some wavey form to make it look more like and actual flowing cape. As of now, it still comes across but appears a bit stiff.

What I really like is how you added light color tones to the face and the lightning. It adds a lot of energy (both figuratively and literally) to an otherwise calm and grim image.

Overall, well done, of course.

Haha the pose kinda suggests she is doing something silly right now. Well done on that part. It could use a bit more definition, the eyes for example are lost. Not sure if this is the photo or the actual painting though. Judging from the description this is probably some kind of doodle, but dayum of this is the watercolor equivalent of a doodle, then you should doodle far more often.

The main reason why I started a review though are the colors. I know I keep saying this but it's true. In this case I love the purples and blues you used and combined.

I am not a fan of the background. The fire-y center is nice but I don't like the sudden clean edge of the red part.

Nice work. :D

SourCherryJack responds:

Thanks Lu, its a bit more than a doodle, more of a light study or a little fun drawing I did to entertain myself. The eyes aren't there, and the background was definitely an after thought. Thank you for the compliments on the colors. I love blues and violets together and I'm happy to find that you're not the first person who has complimented my use of them together in my art.

Now that's some freaking conving smoke you got there. Wow. I love the little lights the embers all over Batman produce. Comparing with your older version, I think you did a great job improving an already good image and I also prefer this classic Batman design you used now. He looks a bit stronger with the more "stout" head.

What else can I say? This Batman is just hot.

Rhunyc responds:

Thank you! I appreciate the kind review. :)

Seriously, this is a pretty awesome concept and a cool sketch. You should really consider turning this into a fully fleshed out drawing. Would you mind telling us which song it is based on?

x-factor11 responds:

Bonobo's music, and thanks! Yeah I want to do more with it but I'm not sure what yet, it's a neat sketch though I thought haha

Great art as usual. I couldn't find a pic with this particular armour, but I looked up a few Skywrath Mages before starting this review and I really like how you drew him. The golden parts are probably my favourite part. How many colours did you use (approximately) to get a convincing gold? Good job on the reflected colors all around, especially on some of the blue parts of his armour. The only think that really bothers me are the scales on the feet and I am not sure about the angle of his left (right from our view) wing.

Overall splendid work like always. I can only repeat myself, whenever I look at your work the materials and poses are just "convincing". Kinda like... not photo-realistic, but realistic in its setting.

And thank you for another friday flood.
